Founded in 2012 as Voltaic Energy, management approached us to conceive a new modernised direction for the business to set it apart from the pack. We created the Upstream Energy name as a forward thinking, progressive theme positioned at the forefront of new technology.

As a disruptor to the traditional utility market the Upstream colour ways are vibrant and exciting, moving away from the conservative direction of many utility providers. Clean and minimal visual structure retains an element of formality, requisite for a brand upon which businesses rely day in & day out.


Geographical latitude and longtitude of installations are a continuing theme across all digital and print media, with location being a key variable in the performance of any solar or wind based energy system.

The digital solution for Upstream was centered around establishing credibility for a new brand with solid structure and information architecture backed by content covering technologies and system design. A key part of launch was also thorough development of the news section to optimise SEO. The Upstream website now ranks No.1 on Google search for solar PPA providers. Pixel perfect across all devices, the site maximises the impact of key brand messages along the way.

Going Upstream

Founded in 2012 as Voltaic Energy, the enterprise began by delivering solar power systems to businesses through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), a little known and understood means of financing the purchase and installation of renewables. Four years on and the industry has exploded as energy companies large and small add renewables and PPA’s to their product offering. Given the en masse influx of new players into this space, Voltaic Energy sought to differentiate themselves from the many generic solar power companies and create a more boutique presence.

Enter Upstream.

Narrative around the product offering focussed heavily on performance optimisation technologies as a means of highlighting Upstream’s expertise as solutions providers, relevant in a space where the majority of players are simply resellers and installers of solar panels.
